UN Women and University of Waterloo HeforShe

UN Women is the UN organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. Today, we had the absolute pleasure to meet and graphic record for Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka, the Executive Director for UN Women. She was the keynote speaker at the University of Waterloo for the HeforShe Anniversary Address.

Ms. Mlambo Ngcuka spoke about the importance of our new generation making the real change needed around the wold for gender equality. She stressed the importance of working together in solidarity, and that many of these changes can start at home, with parent…fathers as role models. Becoming an activist, and joining together on this movement to change the way we view genders. There’s still much to do in countries and societies around the world,  and  many are still struggling with these issues.

Another important piece of this puzzle to to build up the confidence of girls – to show them their potential. One goal would be to have more woman and girls in STEM, and to see a rise in women in faculty and in leadership roles in all industries…

So…join the movement and end gender-based violence and discrimination!
